This is the blog of Giles Wilkes, the Chief Economist of CentreForum. Generally I prefer polite repartee to melodramatic Trollery. I have three kids and a Miniature Schnauzer, the last of which can be seen here.
I am a current member of the Liberal Democrats, because I believe they offer the best chance of a liberal means towards progressive ends. However, like the organisation where I spend my days, I reserve the right to a sceptical view, and have disagreed with them on policies such as the Scrap Tuition Fees pledge (see this post).
This is my personal blog, not a vehicle of CentreForum.
I have appeared at a few events at the last conference, and hope to continue to do so. In fact, you can see me going on next to Vince and Michael White here (second video).
My latest publication is Credit where it’s due: making QE work for the real economy.

Hi Giles,
I just wanted to see whether you might like to cross post your post about the Prospect article on LabourList tomorrow? It’d be great if you might…
Do let me know!

“Liberal means towards progressive ends”
Dear Giles
Like very much those words and wholeheartedly endorse them.
Will create a link from http://www.mikeconomics.net in the next uptate (there’s already one to Centre Forum).
May I take this opportunity to invite me to read the extended version of my op-ed published on Liberal Democrat Voice blog:
http://www.libdemvoice.org/opinion-from-shipyards-to-wind-turbines-britain-needs-bets-17942.html (very interesting exchanges there)
The full text titled “NEEDED: BRITAIN’S ECONOMIC REINVENTION” is available on http://www.mikeconomics.net/home/mindreading/.
Best regards
Mike
